The impacts of globalization coupled with rapidly evolving business requirements are creating an increased need for IT agility, prompting organizations to offer an always-available and secure online delivery service, an executive from a supplier of network appliances remarked recently.

The dismantling of barriers due to globalization, which creates a “no time zone” effect all around the globe, the need for branch expansion of businesses and the move towards mobility, are just some of the recent changes in the way users do business.

In the same vein, heightened need for consolidation, security and compliance, as well as business continuity, is creating a pull towards which the enterprise cannot fully address the demands of the ever-present user.

“The user experience is [often] severely impacted because of the pull of these two forces,” claimed Boonchareon Chong, senior IT consultant for the ASEAN region, F5 Networks, during the recent relaunch of Transition Systems Philippines (TSP), a local distributor of IT products, which has F5 networks as one of its turnkey offerings.

Chong is in the country to further expand F5 Network’s reach in the region, which it hopes to achieve through the help of TSP.

Citing a Frost & Sullivan study on online services, Chong shared that users are looking at three things when transacting online—performance, security, and availability.

Chong stressed that these can be achieved through a reliable Application Delivery Networking (ADN) appliance, which provides security, availability, and fast performance all in one box.

The F5 Networks executive likened the setup to a local bank: “Customers don’t like to queue, they expect the bank to always be available during banking hours, and that no money is stolen from them or the bank itself,” he explained.

In Internet banking, Chong said, the same things are expected of the service provider. “All of these lead to better user experience without any changes to [the] corporate environment,” he related. “All you need to do is put F5 Networks in the middle.”

A reliable ADN helps accelerate web performance by lowering page load time. “The faster your applications are, the more revenue you could incur,” he chided.

It also boosts user confidence with the service by providing secure portals that eliminate Web fraud, DOS (denial of service) attacks, and identity theft. Having a good ADN, Chong further noted, gives firm an always-on infrastructure and a flexible one which can be moved whenever needed.
