Following two tropical storms that ravaged most of the Philippines’ capital, APC, a provider of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems for consumer and enterprise users, has launched a green campaign that aims to aid the proper disposal and replacement of flood-damaged UPS units.
After recent typhoons that inundated most of residential and commercial areas in the metro, APC officials said the service call volume for their customer service centers have gone up, with users calling to check how they can have their units repaired and replaced.
This prompted the company to launch a drive to ensure the safe and proper disposal and replacement of UPS units. “We wanted our customers to take care of their damaged products in an environment-friendly way,” said Dave Johnson, senior vice president for home and business networks, APC.
The drive will comprise of three programs, the company said, which include APC UPS Green Disposal Days, a three-weekend drive in the next three weekends where customers can dispose of their units and receive a 15% discount voucher for future purchases; APC Trade-UPS, where users can trade-in their defective UPS for the same discount; and the continuation of the APC offering for battery replacement.
Users can bring their defective units to pre-selected locations around the metropolis. “We will also be accepting competitor units for this program,” Johnson clarified, adding that APC also hopes to gain revenue by allowing rival units to be traded in for APC UPS systems.
APC officials said units collated through the program will be brought to their plant in Cavite, where parts will be recycled in a process approved by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
The program will run from October 19 until the end of December this year.
