A new software utility will give teachers ‘absolute control’ of their computer laboratories by giving them full monitoring and access capabilities to their students’ workstations, representatives from the local distributor of the product announced Friday.

Called Insight, the new software product from Faronics Corporation will hopefully address the short attention span of students inside the laboratory which only lasts around 15 to 20 minutes during a one to two-hour class.

IPSystems, Inc., the local distributor of the product, said teachers often do not know what their students are doing inside the laboratory, so having comprehensive control of their computers would definitely be a benefit for them.

With Insight, teachers can succinctly control the laboratory environment, which is prone to distractions especially when the computers are connected to the Internet. They can opt to show only the ongoing lesson on the students’ screens, or shut down any unnecessary programs being used by the students.

All these can be done through the Insight Console, which centralizes classroom management for the teacher. It can view up to 250 zoomable high-color thumbnails at the same time, from which the teacher can monitor the students’ activities.

The teacher can also use a testing and voting facility, which allows him to ask the students yes and no or multiple choice questions to quiz them on the lesson of the day, all distributed electronically.

Faronics Insight comes at a per-classroom perpetual licensing, which gives users one license to be installed on up to 250 computers.

IP Systems likewise announced the availability of Faronics Deep Freeze, which protects the workstation by restoring it to optimum settings—and subsequently erasing any user-created files—every reboot; and Faronics Anti-Executable, a whitelisting tool which allows only authorized programs to run on the computers.

IPSYSTEMS Inc is a dedicated value-added distributor (VAD) offering leading IT enterprise products in the Philippines. Established in 2006, it has since been distributing IT solutions and services in addressing the network, security and communication needs of the Philippine market.
